Invitation
(for Jodi)
Come walk with me through life's ancient forest.
Let us share the fresh morning air
on a quiet, secluded lake
and embrace as the evening solace is broken
by the distant, lonely call of the loon.
Today, I shall explore the marshes,
and you the meadows.
Together we will share our experiences
before a warm, crackling fire
and roasted marshmallows.
We will climb the highest mountains,
stopping to rest when the other is fatigued,
gathering strength and finally reaching the summit
where we will marvel
at the limitless beauty far below us.
When we have grown weary from our travels,
let us seek to replenish our weakened spirits
and rediscover the ancient forest
through the eager eyes of our children.
United in song with the gentle North Wind,
our family will celebrate the joy
of all we have discovered together
and all we have yet to discover.
One day, the journey will end.
Until then, there is so much to explore,
to share,
to learn.
