Shuttle Flight
Gliding gently above the earth
my seat vibrates with each rotation
soft clouds create a landscape
that absorbs my thoughts
Occasionally the torn carpeting
reveals the hidden world below
Patches of wilderness surround the city
animals dash between them
like escaped prisoners
The cabin is jarred by an unseen appendage
lashed out suddenly as if to say
"You don't belong here"
Horizon shift and stomachs are weightless
a man nervously looks up from his paper
read now for the third time
Landing gear extended
gravity potential lessens
The crowd merges with the collective
